New Editions Revealed for GTA V

Rockstar games reported two new GTA V editions available right now for pre-order. I personally went to my local GameStop as soon as I finished work and pre-ordered my very own copy of GTA V Collectors Edition. I have one haunting thought concerning current generation AAA titles releasing so close to the release of the next generation consoles.

The concern is the possibility (or probability) that after I purchase the current generation GTA V title, that at some time in the then near future, maybe during the first several months after the launch of these next generation consoles, that the very same AAA titles will be released for the PS4 and or the Xbox ONE.

Why would this be be so horrible? So I buy GTA V (in my situation the collectors edition $149.99) which is as of now only going to be available for current generation consoles. Then all of a sudden a few months later the next generation of consoles are released and BAM! It's announced GTA V is now available for PS4 and Xbox ONE. See their superior graphics, physics, interactivity, social presence and… $149.99 down the drain.

Why? Because had I been confronted with the choice of buying GTA V for the current generation consoles, or the next generation consoles with ample time (meaning before the release of GTA V) I would hands down take a pass on this console generation of GTA V. With a strong indication that the next generation version of GTA V will undoubtedly be the superior version of the two generation versions of course my choice would be the next generation GTA V.

Why am I even considering GTA V will be on next generation consoles? For one the next GTA V will not be for another four to five years after the release of GTA V. Will RockStar allow the first four to five years of the next generation of consoles be GTA-less? Maybe? I think unlikely. Second, will Sony or Microsoft not want to dangle that carrot in front of its potential consumers? I believe it's safe to say GTA V can be a system seller. Of course I have been only sharing my ideas on the matter. Whether or not this will be the case, is still yet to be seen.

The first of the two GTA V editions are as follows below.

  1. My son had mentioned about the blimp for the collectors edition. I wouldn’t mind having the deposit bag or the Los Santos Hat. The caligraphy definitely resembles Cali.

You made a valid point thou. Should I waste the $150 for pre-order extras or just save it for the PS4? Am I understanding you correctly, if I buy the game for the PS3, would I have to buy another version just to play with the PS4? Or is the PS4 backwards compatible?

    1. Hello @sweetcakesSEO. Thank you for reading my post. And thank you again for commenting. My concern with GTAV is that its going to release so late in the current gen cycle, that It would be offensive if RockStar also has a next gen GTAV to be released soon after the launch of the next gen consoles, i.e. Xbox One, and the PS4.

It’s not uncommon for multi-platform video games with releases merging with the time frame for the releases of next gen consoles to also release their game for those consoles as well. For instance, Assassins Creed 4, Watch_Dogs, Call of Duty: Ghosts, etc. At least with those titles the consumer has been informed upfront about their titles release for current, and as well for the next gen of consoles.

In GTAV’s case its now around two weeks from its time for release and we are left with the impression that GTAV will only be a current gen title. If within a year RockStar announces that GTAV is getting the next gen treatment? I’d cry foul.

Because had RockStar been upfront and clear with their intentions of releasing a next gen GTAV. I would not have pre-ordered my current gen GTAV, and I simply would have waited for the next GTAV to be released and bought that version instead, and not have to buy the current gen version because I’m being let to believe that it will be the only version.

You brought up an interesting point as well. Although I don’t plan to get rid of my PS3, or my Xbox 360. Sorry for the long reply.
